TEATRO BORSONI – Grand opening!
We are truly delighted to announce that our project for the new “Teatro Borsoni” is finally completed and officially opens its doors to the city of Brescia today!
The official inauguration will take place this morning, with the ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 11:30 AM, but the celebration for the opening of this new cultural space will last until Monday, September 23rd.
The “Oltre la Strada” redevelopment project aims to regenerate the “Via Milano” area in Brescia on three levels: infrastructural, urban, and socio-cultural. A symbol of this revitalization is the new Teatro Borsoni, located in a former degraded industrial area.
The theater, with a main hall seating 312 and a children’s hall with 169 seats, is presented as a 21×64 m parallelepiped, 9 meters tall. The exterior is made of prefabricated diamond-shaped concrete blocks measuring 4×1.25 meters, creating a cyclopean wall. The 19-meter-tall fly tower, clad in backlit polycarbonate panels, becomes a new urban landmark. The entrance, a recessed 7-meter metal loggia, houses the double-height foyer and a bar.
“An abandoned site now hosts a highly iconic building as a response to physical and social decay,” stated architect Botticini. “The inspiration for the project came from the post-industrial context and the idea of architecture looking back to the Renaissance, seen as a concept of civic and urban architecture.”
The structure of the theater, the architect continued, “seeks to establish a relationship between the interior and exterior spaces. And ‘relationship’ is indeed the key word for the new theater, which aims to open up to the city and create a bond with the surrounding territory.”
