Sports Center in Paris

Sports Center in Paris

The project of the sports center in Suresnes is situated within a heterogeneous site, composed of small residential units and small-scale production buildings. Like a pulsating hub, the sports center emerges as a structure belonging to the site, blending the urban categories of street, square, and park, defining a new type of public space and giving centrality to the neighborhood. "Excavation" and "extrusion" are the two generative processes that shape the building while simultaneously addressing the complexity of the program in relation to the area. The excavation embraces the main function of the gym which is adjacent to a large English style courtyard that transforms it into a high quality and protected space. On the other hand the extrusion accommodates the multipurpose hall reaching a considerable height from the ground to protect the underlying courtyard and emphasize the importance of the building in its context.

The architecture is deeply rooted in the location but expressing a differentiation capable of generating true environmental enhancement

The transformation adopts an integration perspective, valuing the materials of the site, creating an emblematic, enticing structure that is simultaneously domestic and representative of its collective and public function
