THE SITE IS THE BRIEF – ARW opens the doors of its Architectural Research Workshop

A project never begins with a blank page.

Before architecture, there is a place, a scale, a building, a street, a memory, a constraint. There are things to preserve, others to transform, and others we may simply not have learned to see yet.

The Site Is the Brief starts from this idea: that the site is not merely the space where a project happens, but an active part of the project itself. Something to observe before drawing even begins.

On 9 October, as part of OPEN! Studi Aperti, we are opening the doors of our Brescia studio. From 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, ARW will become a space to move through freely, among models, images, projects, research, and work in progress.

But we do not want to create an exhibition of finished results.

What we want to show is, above all, what comes before: the conditions from which a project takes shape, the questions we ask ourselves, the traces we decide to follow. Projects that differ in scale, place, and programme become different ways of exploring the same question: how much can a place suggest the architecture that is yet to come?

ARW stands for Architectural Research Workshop for exactly this reason. A studio, but also a collective laboratory where projects emerge through the exchange between people, disciplines, and different points of view. OPEN! will be an opportunity to let others into this process too: not only to see what we do, but to talk about architecture, cities, transformation, and everything in between.

And, of course, to have a drink together.
