The regeneration of the former Montelungo–Colleoni barracks redefines the relationship between historic heritage and the contemporary city, transforming a disused site into a new urban centrality.
The project preserves the ring-shaped layout of the barracks, maintaining its identity while reinterpreting its role: from a closed and introverted compound to an open, permeable, and accessible system. At its core, a new public courtyard organizes green spaces, squares, and pathways, creating a place for interaction and collective life. The intervention integrates a mix of functions: public student housing, subsidized university residences, private housing, classrooms, commercial spaces, and neighborhood services. This functional mix establishes a new balance between living, learning, and public space, generating a dynamic and inclusive urban environment. A project that goes beyond simple renovation, shaping a true social infrastructure capable of restoring value, identity, and new opportunities to the city.
