A general requalification for the open spaces of a school campus in Roncadelle, a town in the outskirts of Brescia, that is part of the new project of the multifunctional school complex.
the new volume is inserted between the existing buildings as to close the school complex’s fence.
The installation best interprets the relationship with the two prevailing conditions: the park on the northern side and the area within the fence, to which it aspires. this condition of duplicity characterizes the nature of the building. with regard to the campus, it presents a more rigorous and representative front, consisting of a cantilevered glass volume over the entrance ramp in the direction of the courtyard; while the side facing the park is fragmented and shows a more domestic character, resembling a pavilion cut by a continuous glass strip in its lower part. this is also reflected in its internal articulation, where the upper part of the canteen on two levels faces the courtyard, overlooking the hall below, and out onto the park. The new building is divided into two interconnected areas: the first one, raised one meter above the ground, is accessed by a ramp with a canteen for primary and secondary schools, distributed across two floors to hold 250 people in the basement below, there is a main hall for 150 people that is connected by two external staircases towards the park. the smaller building on the upper floor has kitchens, school facilities and classrooms on the upper level. The steep roof of the building acts as a skylight that conveys light to the lower part of the building and creates the internal space unit. This anti-seismic building is made entirely of reinforced concrete covered with the same color brick and mortar, while the roof is covered by titanium zinc sheets.
